Extreme Website Makeover: Conversion Edition #SESSJ

In this interactive SES Ultimate Website Makeover session, Bryan and Ethan reviewed a couple of sites on which they significantly improved the conversion effectiveness and walked through their thought process. Outdoorplay was the first example that had a 17% bounce rate and a 1% conversion rate. They were engaged not to reduce the bounce rate which was pretty good, but to improve the conversion rate. They recommended among other things:
- Differentiating themselves from competition
- Defining in 140 characters or less what our company is about
They widened the page, moved search bar up to the header. They have seen a 2 – 5 times higher conversion when a visitor uses an on-site search. They also critiqued Starwest Botanicals website and identified ways to improve conversion. They added:
- Unique selling proposition (USP)
- Moved more content above fold
- Added more category images
- Added a sort function
- And more...
