Google + 1 = Search Gets Better
Google launched their version of the “Like” button or search “Retweet,” which allows anyone to recommend search results to friends, contacts and others on the web with the click of the +1 button.
How Google + 1 works:
The +1 button will appear next to organic search engine results and AdWords advertisements. In the future, website owners and publishers will be able to add a +1 button to pages and articles on their sites.
In order to “+1 things,” you first need a public Google profile. Your +1s are stored in a new tab on your Google profile. You can show your +1s tab to the world, or keep it private and just use it to personally manage the ever-expanding record of things you love around the web. To get access to +1 you can sign up here through Google.
Marketing Impact:
- SEO experts will more closely consider the human relevance of web content, as well as the algorithmic implications for improving ranking and visibility
- Adwords Advertisers will more explicitly articulate value and clarity in ad copy
- +1 data will now be available in Adwords and Adsense reporting
- Sites with +1 clicks could eventually outrank sites without +1 clicks (IMHO)
- Content will continue to be King
